La Biennale di Venezia "Mythologiques"

April 20, 2024

Contemporary Istanbul Foundation is thrilled to announce “ Mythologiques”, a solo exhibition by Tomokazu Matsuyama, curated by Christoph Doswald, in tandem with the 60th International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia.

From 20 April to 24 November 2024, the exhibition at Magazzino No. 41, Venice, traverses the multifaceted panorama of cultural identity, migration, and the globalized world. Tethering heritage from a life lived in Japan and the U.S., Tomakazu Matsuyama’s work is a vibrant testament to the dynamics of cultural identities and the complex interplay of diverse and fluid experiences.

In Mythologiques, Matsuyama crafts a visual dialogue that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, challenging us to consider the essence of belonging in a globalized society. His art brings the perpetual negotiation between the self and the foreign to the forefront, weaving signs and symbols of various origins into a multidimensional yet cohesive narrative.

This exhibition is not only a presentation of Matsuyama’s artistic journey but a profound contemplation of themes of cultural fusion, belonging, and identity in our contemporary world. Mythologiques invites us to reflect on our place within the global community, urging a reexamination of our connections to the world and each other.
